ABOUT THE TREASURE
This small Aegean island, near Asia Minor, was inhabited as early as the 3rd millennium before Christ. Since then different civilizations existed here, from which numerous traces were preserved. Most remarkable are the remains of Pythagoreion - the ancient fortified port with Greek and Roman monuments and a spectacular tunnel-aqueduct, as well as the Heraion, temple of the Samian Hera.
